Valentine’s Day

by Shawn Allen

I am alone, and lonely.
I walk through familiar places
that have become like strangers in the rain.
Words that, once, I understood
are meaningless, hideous things.
I see myself in window glass;
I am foreign to my eyes, and fading.
Even my hands seem strange,
and move in strange ways.
Without the sound of your voice,
the presence of you beside me,
today I am alone, and lonely.
